On April 6th 2025, I took on the Marathon des Sables - a 250km ultramarathon across the Sahara Desert, known as the toughest footrace on earth: seven days, temperatures between 40 and 50 degrees, carrying all my own food and equipment on my back. I'm not a natural runner, but alongside multiple Ironman triathlons, every mile has been run for one reason: to raise money for International Justice Mission, a charity working to end child sex trafficking and exploitation. Right now, millions of young boys and girls are trapped in a nightmare. Every day, they experience horrific abuse at the hands of traffickers. Their childhoods are stolen and their futures are destroyed. IJM works with local police and justice systems around the world to rescue children from these horrors, bring traffickers to justice and build lasting protection for the most vulnerable. I created this fund because I care deeply about dogs. They are loyal, innocent, and completely defenceless - they can't speak when they're in pain, can't advocate for themselves, and rely entirely on us to protect them. They are truly the voiceless. Dogs are man's best friend, yet millions around the world suffer without any of the care and protection we take for granted. We have the NHS - dogs have nothing. The three charities I've chosen each fight for dogs in different but equally vital ways: - No to Dog Meat campaigns to end the cruel dog meat trade, which continues to cause unimaginable suffering in parts of Asia and beyond. This needs to stop. - Soi Dog Foundation rescues and rehabilitates street dogs across Southeast Asia, giving abandoned and abused animals a second chance at life. - We Care Worldwide was founded by a Newcastle vet who, after witnessing the heartbreaking reality of Sri Lanka's street dogs — strays in horrific conditions and animals who had lost limbs to landmines — knew she had to act. She packed up and went, bringing real, hands-on veterinary care to the dogs who needed it most. That kind of quiet, determined compassion is exactly what this fund is about, and her story is what inspired me to include them. I’m creating a fund to support a number of charities whose work makes a meaningful difference to people and communities facing difficult circumstances. The organisations supported by this fund focus on areas including blood cancer research and patient support, domestic abuse services, vulnerable children and families, and opportunities for young people through creativity and education.
